Shower curtains prevent water and soap splashing across the bathroom floor, but over time soap scum, limescale and even mould can build up and look unsightly. It may seem like a daunting task, but cleaning your shower curtain doesn’t need to be difficult. Read on for three quick and easy tips for cleaning your shower curtain.

Method 1

First, remove the rings from the curtain, and then pop the curtain in the washing machine.

Add some white towels to bulk out the wash.

You can opt for coloured towels if your shower curtain is coloured.

Pop in the usual amount of detergent you would use, and add between half and one cup of baking soda.

Wash in warm or hot water at the highest level.

At the rinse cycle, add in half a cup to one cup of distilled white vinegar.

Hang up to dry, and all the mildew and soap scum should be gone.

Method 2

For heavier stains, you can soak your shower curtain in a mixture of detergent, baking soda and vinegar.

First, take down your shower curtain and remove the rings.

Then fill your tub half full with warm water and add in two tablespoons of regular laundry detergent.

Pour in a cup of white vinegar and let the running water mix the ingredients.

Soak the curtain for around 20 minutes to half an hour.

Any remaining blotches of mildew, wipe away with a microfibre cloth.

Then rinse with cold water, hang the curtain back up and leave to dry.

Method 3

If you just need to spot clean the shower curtain, all you will need is a microfibre cloth and baking soda.

Dampen the cloth and then sprinkle baking soda over it.

Use the cloth to scrub any staining, working your way across the curtain.

You can either leave the curtain up or lay it in the bath to do this.

Rinse with cold water and hang up to dry.
